#FreeAnuel movement became viral among his fans following his arrest. He continued to release track from prison. He mostly participated in collaboration with other artists such as Nicky Jam, Cosculluela, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin. 

He spent 90 days in solitary confinement following an incident with another inmate. 

He stated that his lyrics did not represent his true character during his trial. 

He was released from federal prison into a state prison in Miami in March 2018. 

Cosculluela Controversy

He released a diss track in September 2018. The track was aimed at fellow rapper Cosculluela. The track was widely criticized due to its foul language and offensive remarks about homosexuality and HIV patients. Following the large criticism from the public, his production staff and main producer Paco Lopez canceled his concert at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico scheduled on 12 October 2018. He later apologized for the song.

Anuel AA and Ivy Queen starred in a strong argument on Instagram in April 2019 after the Puerto Rican ensured that Karol G is the, Queen of the Reggaeton. The urban artist said that Ivy Queen is no longer the Queen of reggaeton. He questioned that how will she be the Queen of reggaeton when she doesn't have a hit song in over 7 years.
