Cheryl Ann Tweedy, popularly known as Cheryl is an English singer and television personality. She rose to fame winning a place in a girl group, Girls Aloud through ITV's Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. The group has released 5 studio albums, 2 live albums, and 2 greatest hits compilation albums. She started her solo career in 2009 as well. She has released four solo studio albums. She took a hiatus from music in 2017 to focus on her motherhood. She returned to music in November 2018. Career Timeline

She auditioned for the reality television show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. The reality show aimed to create a boy band and a girl group to compete for the Christmas number one spot on the UK Singles Chart. She was the first contestant to qualify for the girl group. Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberly Walsh were other female contestants qualified for the group. 

The group, Girls Aloud released their debut single "Sound of the Underground" peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart. The single became the 2002 Christmas number one over boy band One True Voice's "Sacred Trust/After You're Gone". 

Girls Aloud released their debut album, Sound f the Underground in May 2003. They later went on to release 4 studio albums, 2 live albums, and 2 greatest hits compilation albums.

Solo Career

Her first solo performance was on the video of American rapper will.i.am's "Heartbreaker" in 2008, where she appeared as a dancer. 

She released her debut solo single, "Fight for This Love" in October 2009. 

She released her debut studio solo album, 3 Words in the same month.

She was one of the opening act for The Black Eyed Peas at the British shows of the E.N.D World Tour in 2010. 

She embarked on her first solo concert tour, A Million Lights Tour in October 2012. She received criticism from her fans for the high price of 350 pounds for an autograph, and photograph with her. Its proceeds were to go to her charity, The Cheryl Cole Foundation. 

She revealed in July 2018 that her fifth studio album was almost complete. However, her first single from the album, "Love Made Me Do It" failed to make an impact on the charts. Television Career

She replaced Sharon Osbourne to become a judge for the fifth series of The X Factor in 2008. She became the winning judge, having given the girls category.

She returned to The X Factor for its sixth series. She once again becomes the winning judge, having given the boys category. 

She returned for the seventh series in 2010 but she was not the winning mentor this time. 

In 2011, she was one of the judges on the American version of The X Factor. However, she left the show after three weeks. American singer Nicole Scherzinger replaced her. 

She sued the American producers of The X Factor for the first season for $2.3 million. She received $1.8 million for the first season. She sued for $2 million for the second season. They agreed to a settlement for an undisclosed amount.


She was given a one-off television program for ITV1, Cheryl Cole's Night In. The program aired in December 2009. The program featured music and interviews with Cheryl and some of her favorite performers. 

In October 2010, she discussed her marriage and divorce with Ashley Cole in an episode of the fourth series of Piers Morgan's Life Stories. She also discussed her life-threatening battle with Malaria. 

She returned to The X Factor in 2012 as a guest mentor. 

She got her own documentary, Cheryl: Access All Areas in 2012.

Girls Aloud released a cover of The Pretenders' "I'll Stand by You" as the official single for BBC's charity telethon Children in Need in 2004.

The group released Aerosmith and Run DMC's "Walk This Way" with Sugababes as the official for the UK's charity telethon, Comic Relief. 

She was one of the 19 celebrities to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Comic Relief in March 2009. the trek raised 3.5 million pounds for the charity.

She was one of the artists to provide the voice for the BT Speaking Cock in 2009.

She launched her own charitable foundation, The Cheryl Cole Foundation, with The Prince's Trust in February 2011.
