He started playing football from the youth team of Vianense in 2008. He also played for the youth team of Porto, Braga, and Palmeiras Braga. He began his career with Braga B and made his senior debut club on 2 April 2016 in Segunda Liga. He was part of the team that won the 2019-20 Taca da Liga with Braga. On 31 January 2020, he joined Barcelona for a five-year contract for a €31 million fee, with a buyout clause of €500 million, and made his La Liga debut on 27 September 2020. On 4 July 2021, he was loaned to  Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan from Barcelona, subject to medical and work permits, with an option to make the move permanent in the future.
