James Eugene Carrey, popularly known as Jim Carrey is a legendary Canadian-American comedian, actor, producer, and writer. Carrey started his career as a comedian, rising to fame in 1990 with the sketch comedy tv series, In Living Color. He received U.S. citizenship in October 2004. He was born to a father, Percy Carrey, and a mother, Kathleen Oram. He has French, Irish, and Scottish ancestry on his mother's side, whereas he has French ancestry on his father's side. He was raised Roman Catholic. His religion is Christianity.   • Jim Carrey was only 10 years old when he wrote a letter to Carol Burnett of the Carol Burnett Show. He wrote in the letter that he was a master of impressions and should be offered a role on the show. He had received a reply.
  • He had his first stand up gig in 1977 at the newly-opened Yuk Yuk's comedy club in downtown Toronto. He was only 15 at the time. 
  • He also dropped out of college at the age of 16 to pursue comedy seriously as an impressionist and began performing comedy in downtown Toronto. 
  • He soon started having regular paid shows. 
  • He auditioned to be a cast member for the 1980-81 season of NBC's SNL. However, he was not selected.

He dated makeup artist Cathriona White somewhere between 2012 and 2015. White died from a prescription drug overdose in September 2015. White's husband Mark Burton filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Carrey in September 2016 claiming that he had used his "immense wealth and celebrity status" to illegally obtain and distribute prescription drugs involved in White's death. White's mother, Brigid Sweetman filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Carrey in October 2016, claiming that Carrey had undergone a test for sexually transmitted infections and purposely hid the results from White and the public. He allegedly tested positive for hepatitis A, HSV (Herpes), and II, and chlamydia. The lawsuit claimed Carrey had unprotected sex with White despite he was STD positive.
