He started playing football for the youth team of Everton in 2005 and began his career at the club. He made his debut for the club on 11 December 2014 in a UEFA Europa League group match.   • He started playing football for the youth team of Everton in 2005 and began his career at the club. 
  • After progressing through the ranks and the reserve side, he signed a scholarship with the club in June 2014.
  • He made his debut for the club on 11 December 2014 in a 1-0 loss against FC Krasnodar at Goodison Park in a UEFA Europa League group match. With his only first-team appearances of the 2014-15 season, he signed his first professional contract with the club.
  • After being given a number 51 shirt in the 2015-16 season, he, however, suffered an ankle injury that saw him sidelined for two months. On 6 December 2015, he scored on his return for the Everton U21 in a 3-1 win over Liverpool U21. He then made his Premier League debut for the club on 30 April 2016 in a 2-1 home win against Bournemouth. On 15 May 2016, he started the final game of the 2015-16 season in a 3-0 win against Norwich City. During that season, he made only 2 appearances for the club in all the competitions. That season, he also made 13 appearances for Everton U21, scoring 9 goals and providing 2 assists in all the competitions.
  • Two months after making his Premier League debut, he signed a three-year contract with the club, keeping him until 2019. During his 2016-17 season, he was a member of the Everton U23 squad to win the inaugural Premier League 2 title, in which he made a total of 22 appearances and scored 5 times. His performance throughout April won him April's Premier League 2 Player of the Month.
  • On 3 August 2017, he signed on a season-long loan with Championship side Nottingham Forest. He made his debut for the club on 4 August 2017 in a 1-0 win against Millwall. On 12 August 2017, he scored his first goal for the club in a 4-3 win against Bretford. Since making his Nottingham Forest debut, he became a first-team regular. On 28 October 2017, he scored his first-ever hat-trick in a 3-2 win over Hull City. During his loan spell at Nottingham Forest, he made 43 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals and providing 5 assists in all the competitions.
  • On 2 January 2019, he was loaned to Sheffield United for the rest of the 2018-19 season. He made his debut for the club on 6 January 2019 in a 1-0 loss against Barnet in the third round of the FA Cup. On 23 February 2019, he scored his first goal for the club in a 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion. During his loan spell at Sheffield United, he made 17 appearances for the club, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist in all the competitions as Sheffield United was promoted to the Premier League next season.

  • On 30 July 2020, he joined Championship club Norwich City on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee. On 5 September 2020, he scored on his debut for the club in a 3-1 EFL Cup defeat to Luton Town. On 1 May 2021, he scored twice as Norwich City defeated Reading 4-1 to secure the Championship title and make an instant return to the Premier League. During his 2020-21 season, he made 26 appearances for the club, scoring 6 goals and providing 1 assist in all the competitions as Norwich City won the EFL Championship that season.
