Acuña has previously played for Ferro Carril Oeste, Racing Club, and Sporting CP. On 14 September 2020, he joined Spanish club Sevilla on a four-year deal for a transfer fee of €11 million. 

On the international level, Acuña has represented Argentina at various age levels. He has represented Argentina at the senior level.
