03rd January 2020 might be an important event for the entire world as it may cause World War III. The major general of Iran Qasem Soleimani was killed on the very day around 1:00 am local time (22:00 UTC on 2nd January). He was killed with missiles shot from an American drone, which targeted his convoy near Baghdad International Airport. 

Just after he left his plane, which arrived in Iraq from Lebanon, the missiles were launched, and the incident happened. Along with Qasem other four were killed by a missile, including Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the Iraqi-Iranian military commander. The body was confirmed as Qasim through his red ring in his finger.

Moreover, the news was confirmed by the United States Department of Defense. The strike was carried out under the direction of President Trump. Besides that, they also asserted that Qasem was planning further attacks on American diplomats. And due to this incident, tens of thousands came to the streets to mourn the general burning US and British flags and were also chanting “death to America.”

Recalling his early life, Qasem was born in Qanat-e Malek, Kerman. He was Iranian by nationality and possessed the ethnicity of Persians. He was born to Iranian parents; Hassan Soloeimani and Fatemeh Soleimani. He grew up with his siblings Sohrab Soleimani and Ahmad  Soleimani. The information about his academic qualifications is currently unknown.

When did Qasem Soleimani die?

As per the sources, Qasem died on 3rd January 2020 near Baghdad International Airport, Baghdad Governorate, Iraq. His funeral was held on 4th January, which was held in Baghdad with thousands of Iraqi people, mourners in attendance, and militia flags. The funeral started at the AI-Kadhimiya Mosque in Baghdad. 

Many renowned faces of Iraq attended the funeral procession including Iraq’s prime minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi and other leaders of Iran-backed militias. His departed body was taken to the holy Shia cities of Karbala and Najaf.
