Tom Skerritt is an American actor who is best known for his role in "Alien", "Top Gun", "Redemption Road", "A River Runs Through It" and "Up in Smoke". He has also worked for four years in the American Air Force during his early years. His career as an actor kicked off in 1962 with "War Hunt" which was a war film. After that, he got his big break in the American satirical war film "MASH" followed by "Harold and Maude". He made his debut on the small screen as a soldier in the "ABC" series "Combat". Spending more than half a century in the acting field, he has received several nominations and awards, including winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1993 for "Picket Fences".
