Tyronn Jamar Lue, popularly known as Tyron Lue or just "Ty" is an American professional basketball coach and a former player. He is a 2 times NBA champion with Los Angeles Lakers. He is the 14th person to have won an NBA championship as a head coach and as a player. As a player, he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the 1998 NBA draft. He played in the point guard position. He has played for Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, and Milwaukee Bucks. As a Coach, he led Cleveland Cavaliers to 2016 NBA championship.

Tyronn Lue was born on 3 May 1977. His birth name is Tyronn Jamar Lue. His birth place is in Mexico, Missouri in the United States. He holds American nationality. 

He attended Raytown Senior High School in Raytown, Missouri. He later attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he studied sociology. He played college basketball there. 

He declared for the NBA after his junior season. 

Playing Career

The Denver Nuggets selected Lue in the first round with 23rd overall pick of the 1998 NBA draft. He was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on the draft night.

He helped the Lakers to win the 2000 and 2001 NBA championships.

He then signed with Washington Wizards.

At the end of the 2002-03 season, he signed with the Orlando Magic. 

At the end of the 2003-04 season, he was traded to the Houston Rockets. 

During the mid-season, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. 

He played 3 and a half seasons for the Hawks. 

Sacramento Kings signed him in February 2008 but waived him later in the same month. 

He then signed with Dallas Mavericks in March 2008. 

Milwaukee Bucks signed him in July 2008. 

The Bucks traded him back to the Magic in February 2009. 

He retired in 2009. He averaged 8.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game in his NBA playing career.

Coaching Career

The Boston Celtics announced him the director of basketball development in October 2009. He was also an assistant coach there.

He became the member of the coaching staff on Los Angeles Clippers in July 2013.

He became the associate head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers in June 2014. He became the highest-paid assistant coach in the NBA. 

He became the head coach of the Cavaliers during the mid-season in January 2016. 

He led the Cavaliers to their first-ever NBA Champion in 2016. 

He became the first coach in NBA history to win his first 10 postseason games.

He also became the second rookie head coach in two years to win the NBA championship and third head coach to win a championship after becoming the head coach in midseason. 

He is the 14th person to have won an NBA championship as a head coach and as a player. 

He took a leave of absence from coaching the Cavaliers in March 2018 citing recurrent chest pain. He returned to coach before the regular season. 

He led the Cavaliers to 2018 NBA Finals, but they lost to the Golden State Warriors. 

Lue was named Best Coach/Manager and his team was named Best Team at the 2016 ESPY Awards. 

The Cavaliers fired him in October 2018.
