Jen Shah, a cast member on Bravo's "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City", pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud that victimized hundreds, including many seniors. She changed her plea during a last-minute hearing and was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing. She plead guilty in federal court on July 11, 2022, just a week before she was set to go on trial for her ties to an alleged telemarketing scheme targeting the elderly. NBC News reported that during the July 11 proceedings, Shah stated that she had "agreed with others to commit wire fraud" and "knew it misled" many victims, some of whom she said were over the age of 55. "[I] knew it was wrong," Shah told the court. "Many people were harmed and I'm so sorry." Damian Williams, the United States Attorney issued a statement shortly after her plea change. "Jennifer Shah was a key participant in a nationwide scheme that targeted elderly, vulnerable victims," he said, per a press release. "These victims were sold false promises of financial security but instead Shah and her co-conspirators defrauded them out of their savings and left them with nothing to show for it. This Office is committed to rooting out these schemes whatever form they take." An attorney for Shah told in a statement following the plea change, "Ms. Shah is a good woman who crossed a line. She accepts full responsibility for her actions and deeply apologizes to all who have been harmed. Ms. Shah is also sorry for disappointing her husband, children, family, friends, and supporters. Jen pled guilty because she wants to pay her debt to society and put this ordeal behind her and her family. " 

Shah now faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and up to $9.5 million in fines and restitution, in addition to a $6 million forfeiture as per sources. She will be sentenced later this year on Nov. 28.

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's Jen Shah was dramatically arrested during filming in March 2021 along with assistant Stuart Smith on suspicion of federal offenses. On 11th July 2022, she pleaded guilty to federal charges of organizing a $5 Million telemarketing scam that preyed on hundreds of elderly people. The US attorney's office says Shah faces the maximum sentence of 30 years in jail, but NBC Connecticut reports that a plea deal will actually see her serve a maximum of 14 years. As part of her guilty plea, the reality star also agreed to forfeit $6.5 million and to pay restitution up to $9.5 million.  

Jen Shah was arrested on March 30, 2021, by New York detective Christopher Bastos in Salt Lake City after she received a perplexing phone call. She believed the call was tied to an order of protection she had out against a man who once attacked her and was convicted of multiple felonies in New York. After the call, she received another call from Bastos believing it was also tied to the protective order. Bastos, who told Shah to pull over as she was driving to a shoot in Utah, arrested her as a suspect in the telemarketing fraud case. Shah and her assistant Stuart Smith were both arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

She remained free on bail but did not speak as she left the courthouse and walked a short distance to a waiting vehicle.
