William Paul Troost-Ekong is a professional football player who plays for Premier League side Watford and captains the Nigeria national team as a centre-back. He started playing football for the youth team of Bishop’s Stortford FC. In 2008, he joined the youth team of Fulham and played until 2010. In 2010, he then joined the youth team of Tottenham Hotspur where he played until 2013. On 23 July 2013, he joined FC Groningen on a free transfer and began his career at the club. He then played for FC Dordrecht (loan), Gent, Haugesund (loan), Bursaspor, and Udinese. 

On the international level, born in the Netherlands into a mixed Dutch and Nigerian family, he was eligible for both the Netherlands and Nigeria in international football. He has represented both Netherlands and Nigeria at various age levels. Despite representing the Netherlands at U19 and U20 youth levels, he eventually chose to represent Nigeria.
