Ohai was born to Ben Ohai(father) and Cindy Ohai(mother). Her father is Hawaiian and he named her after Kealia Beach on the island of Kauai. Her mother is a Native American, who supported her decision to pursue her career as an athlete.

Kealia also has an elder sister named Megan, who was also a soccer player. Megan also had won the 2007 NCAA championship. Kealia is very much inspired by her sister.

Ohai was a member of the 2012 championship-winning team. She was named the most outstanding offensive player in the 2012 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.

 Later, she became named to the First-Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and ACC All-Freshman Team. 

Alongside winning the championship in 2012, she also won the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2012. In the same way, she also represented the United States in several tournaments.
