Rumors fly on eve of Seahawks QB Russell Wilson’s contract deadline

Russell Wilson was enjoying a date night this weekend while analysts, reporters, and fans were glued to their computers waiting to find out whether or not the star quarterback would agree to terms on a new deal with the Seattle Seahawks before his imposed deadline of April 15.

Even NFL players took to social media to express their thoughts on Wilson’s contract situation. His tweet came in the form a reply to a story written by Pro Football Talk, questioning Wilson’s desire to play elsewhere, namely, with the Giants.

“Per a league source, the Seahawks think that Wilson would like to play elsewhere, even if he hasn’t and wouldn’t ever say it,” Mike Florio wrote. “They also believe that this unspoken dynamic will cause Wilson to drive a harder bargain with them than he would with another team.”

Florio only cites a “league source” and neither Wilson nor his camp has suggested he intends to play anywhere else besides Seattle.

Wilson appeared on the “Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon mid-March following his appearance at Yankees spring training and was asked about a possible connection with the Giants.

“We are here in New York, but I’m not sure the Seahawks are going to let me get away,” Wilson said. “I love Seattle. Seattle is a special place.”
