Tammy Duckworth is an American politician and retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel who is well known for serving as the junior United States Senator from Illinois since 2017. She also represented Illinois's 8th district in the United States House of Representatives for 4 years from 2013 to 2017 becoming the first disabled woman to be elected so. 

She eventually became the first Asian-American congresswoman for Illinois and the first member of Congress born in Thailand. In 2017, she got elected to become a US Senator for Illinois, the second Asian-American woman to serve the position. Before entering politics, she served as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot in the Iraq War and suffered severe wounds, causing her to lose both her legs and suffer an injury to her arm.

Tammy Duckworth was born on March 12, 1968, in Bangkok, Thailand. Her birth name is Ladda Tammy Duckworth. Her nationality is American. Duckworth belongs to Asian-American ethnicity while Pisces is her zodiac sign. 

Born as the daughter of an American father, Franklin Duckworth, and Thai Chinese mother, Lamai Sompornpairin, Tammy Duckworth is a natural-born citizen of America who was raised along with her younger brother, Tommy in different places; Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, and Cambodia. 

Her father was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps who even worked with the United Nations and international companies in refugee, housing, and development programs back then.  

When she was 16, her family moved to Hawaii where she studied at the Singapore American School at first and then went to the International School Bangkok. She completed her high school at McKinley High School and then attended the University of Hawaii from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1989.

She later received a Master of Arts degree in international affairs from George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs. She also attended flight school and later got transferred to the Army National Guard. In 1996, she entered the Illinois Army National Guard.

Years later, she completed her Ph.D. level in human services at Capella University in March 2015.

Tammy Duckworth is a married woman and has been married once to date to her only husband, Bryan Bowlsbey. Her husband, Major Bryan W. Bowlsbey, a signal officer and fellow Iraq War veteran also served in the military as they both have served in the Illinois Army National Guard and since then the couple has retired from the armed force. 

The couple has been married since the year of 1993 now sharing 27 years of togetherness. They are blessed with two daughters; Abigail(b. 2014) and Maile(b. 2018). Maile was born while Tammy was in her office making her the very first U.S. Senator to give birth while in office.
